On May 5, 2023, the Louisiana Public Service Commission, in docket No. U-36659, approved tan all services distributed overlay over the 318 NPA. The 318 NPA covers the northern part of the state. Cities in the 318 NPA include but are not limited to Shreveport, Bossier City, Monroe, Alexandria, Ruston and many other smaller communities. The new 457 NPA will serve the same geographic area currently served by the existing 318 NPA. Additionally, central office codes in the 457 NPA will be available for assignment only when all assignable prefixes in the 318 NPA have been assigned. The 318-318 NXX will be released as an assignable CO code after the new 457 NPA in service date.
Implementation of Relief Plan
Implementation of the 318/457 NPA overlay is as follows
Network preparation and customer education begins - August 26, 2024
Start of permissive 10-digit dialing - February 24, 2025
End of permissive dialing and start of mandatory 10-digit dialing - August 25, 2025
Earliest new 457 NPA CO code activation date* - September 25, 2025
Earliest date CO codes in the new 457 NPA may be ordered through NANPA** - July 21, 2025
*In service date of the new 457 NPA Overlay
** CO codes in the 457 NPA are available only when all assignable CO codes in the 318 NPA are assigned.
